Sprint officially announced the HTC EVO 4G LTE earlier this month, but the carrier failed to offer an exact release date.

Aside from the fact that customers will be able to pre-order the smartphone beginning May 7 for $199.99 USD with a new two-year agreement, no other details regarding the phone’s launch date are known for the moment.

However, the folks over at PhoneDog have learned from a source close to the matter that Sprint plans to release the HTC EVO 4G LTE on Friday, May 18th.

Although the May 18 release date has yet to be confirmed by the carrier, it’s kind of intriguing as Sprint already announced the eco-friendly LG Optimus Elite would be released on the same date.

More speculations pointing to a May 18 release for the HTC EVO 4G LTE suggest that, though Sprint is known for usually launching new phones on Sundays, there have been cases when the carrier preferred to release top-tier devices on Fridays.

The relatively short timeframe between pre-order and launch is also something worth mentioning, as it matches that of Galaxy Nexus and LG Viper.

The EVO 4G LTE is HTC’s first Android 4.0 ICS-based smartphone launching at Sprint. The phone runs HTC Sense 4 UI and packs Beats Audio software and hardware for an improved audio experience.

Unlike the HTC One X, which comes with a 1.5 GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, the EVO 4G LTE is powered by a dual-core Krait CPU clocked at 1.5 GHz. The 8-megapixel camera on the back features HTC’s latest ImageSense technology, allowing users to take pictures while capturing a video.

All in all, there’s no telling whether or not the information is accurate, so until Sprint comes forward with official details, we can only hope that the HTC EVO 4G LTE will be launched on the market very soon.
