No longer than a month ago, HTC EVO 4G users where hyped by the new Sprint service that enabled two-way video-chatting employing a dedicated application called Qik. Even though Sprint charged an extra $10 just for this premium service, people rushed to get the feature.

This resulted in Qik, the company distributing the third-party application, having its servers overloaded to 20 times the normal load. The immediate effect was dropped connection during video-chat and spotty service. Also, the video quality of the service proved to be terrible, even though the company promised to boost its servers’ capacity.

After one month, the video company has announced that it managed to fix all the problems reported and is now able to offer HTC EVO 4G a smooth video-chatting experience. Here is the full changelog of the new 3.54 version of Qik:

Connectivity issues improved: In certain network conditions, there were issues where it would take a long time to get connected and initiate a chat session. We have made changes to the way the connection is established to make it significantly faster than before.

Better performance in low network conditions: When the network bandwidth fluctuated below a certain threshold, sometimes the video would not flow both ways. With this update we now adapt to these conditions faster and more gracefully, enabling the 2-way video to perform much better.

SMS verification no longer necessary: With this update, we no longer send you an SMS to verify your phone number. So, if you have been waiting for your SMS to come through – you don’t have to wait anymore. Just update your client to this version and you’ll be all set.

Video chats are not automatically archived for playback: With this update your Qik Video Chats are no longer automatically archived to your account on http://qik.com, and we will be adding additional user controls for this much-requested feature in subsequent releases.

The company has stated that it now registers more than 25,000 video chats happening per day with an average of 4 minutes / video chat session. Stay tuned for more feedback from HTC EVO 4G users to find out if there are anymore problems with the new video calling feature.
