Several HTC EVO 3D owners are
apparently experiencing a critical issue that renders their smartphones useless. The problem has yet to be addressed by HTC with a software update, but this hasn't been confirmed.
According to the guys over at
Phandroid, some HTC EVO 3D users have reported that their devices have been affected by a weird “black-screen-of-death” issue.
The screens of all the plagued EVO 3D smartphones seem to go black and the devices become unresponsive, including the capacitive buttons which remain lit, though they do not react to any command.
Even though users have tried anything, such as resetting the device or even pulling the battery, none have been successful in making their
EVO 3D handset to work again.
To make things worse, the problem does not seem to have its cause within a certain unofficial ROM, as all reports came from users who own stock Android EVO 3D devices with no attempts at rooting whatsoever.
The only solution provided by now is to simply return with the product and pay for the insurance in case you are not inside the 30 day return window anymore.
There is no information yet whether or not
HTC is aware of this critical issue, but we already know that the Taiwanese handset manufacturer and Sprint are preparing to deploy a major maintenance update on August 23.
The upcoming software update should add the following changes:
- Device Lockscreen stuck in “hall-state”;
- Ability to transfer all contacts over Bluetooth;
- Birthday one day off between contacts and Facebook when synced;
- Random GPS coordinates issue;
- Lockscreen displays 3 digit temperature correctly;
- Spiderman demo lockups;
- Making additional preloaded apps un-uinstallable by user;
- Update to applications: Spiderman, Watch, Qik.
According to Sprint the software update will be available starting August 18 via client initiated and August 23 via network initiated for the HTC EVO 3D.
