Owners of a HTC EVO 3D smartphone on the airwaves of wireless carrier Sprint in the United States have now two more reasons to love their handsets.

First, the 2.08.651.2 software update that we wrote about yesterday has already made an appearance on Sprint's sopport website, with a release date of August 18th next to it.

Second, HTC has just announced on its HTCdev website that users can now unlock the bootloaders on their mobile phone.

Starting with the software update, we should note that it brings a nice range of enhancements and fixes into the mix, including the ability to uninstall pre-loaded applications, or updates to applications like Spiderman, Watch, Qik.

The list of fixes that the new software update comes with also includes:

- Device Lockscreen stuck in “half-state” - Ability to transfer all contacts over Bluetooth - Birthday one day off between contacts and Facebook when synced - Random GPS coordinates issue – stuck in Taiwan - Lockscreen displays 3-digit temperature correctly - Spiderman demo lockup

The new software update was expected to start arriving on devices as soon as next week, but it seems that Sprint might have had it ready earlier than that.

Users will be receiving notifications on the availability of this software, but they will also be able to check for it manually through going to Menu > Settings > About phone > HTC software update > Check now.

When the update is available, users will be prompted to download and install it on their devices. The handset will restart during the installation process.

In addition to the said enhancements, the new software update also opened the road to unlocking its bootloader, and HTC already made a move in this direction.

On the aforementioned HTCdev website, users will be able to learn all the necessary steps needed to unlock the bootloader on their phones, as soon as they register there.

HTC made a similar move with the HTC Sensation in Europe, and it should add the US flavor of this mobile phone to the list soon.
