A handset named "Dream" should be among the best-looking mobile devices on the market, right? Well, HTC's Dream (also known as HTC G1), the first handset to come with Google's Android OS, doesn't really have what it takes to be considered beautiful. Several live pictures with the Dream have recently been unveiled, on a Taiwanese forum, showing the phone's interesting but not quite attractive face.

The newly appeared images confirm the previous rumors regarding the form factor of the Android handset. As we can see in one of the leaked pics, the Dream is bigger than the Touch Diamond and even bigger than the old HTC TyTN.

While the overall look of the handset might not be as everyone has hoped, its features will probably not disappoint. First of all, the Dream has a 480 x 320 pixel TFT touchscreen display (of about 3.2 inches) which, together with the Android platform, should provide an excellent functionality. Moreover, the Android Market – which Google recently confirmed to exist – is another highlight of the Dream / G1 (and of all the other Android-powered handsets to come in the future), since it will allow users to get lots and lots of third party applications.

Other nice features of the new device include: a full QWERTY keyboard, GSM and 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, Google Street View, built-in compass, full HTM browser, advanced email capabilities, Music and video players, Bluetooth, a 3.2 Megapixel camera, 1GB of expandable memory and so on.

Up until now, all the rumors are saying that HTC Dream / G1 should be officially presented in September, while its commercial release should come in October or November. The handset will probably be released in the US first, via T-Mobile, for a retail price that might be of around 400 – 500 USD. Let's wait, thus, for HTC or T-Mo to come up with all the "Dream details" and see if the device can compete with the other high-end phones released this year.
