HTC Touch Diamond, the latest high-end smartphone unveiled by HTC, will apparently have lens cameras similar to Apple's second generation iPhone, which should be released sometime in June or July (if all the rumors appeared until now are not too far from the truth).

Quoting the Chinese Economic Daily News website, DigiTimes says that HTC has signed an agreement with Largan Precision, according to which, the latter will provide camera lens for all the Touch Diamond handsets to come on the market. Based in Taiwan (like HTC), Largan has a vast experience in producing photo camera lens and it supplies the lens currently integrated by Apple in the 2.5G iPhone. Moreover, it's almost certain that the manufacturer will provide lens for the 3G iPhone too. Therefore, the new iPhone's camera will be pretty much the same as the 3.2 Megapixel one packed in HTC's Diamond.

Officially announced on the 6th of May, the Touch Diamond seems to be the most advanced Windows Mobile smartphone to date. The handset packs, among other high-end features, a 2.8 inch touchscreen display with a 480 x 640 pixel resolution and handwriting recognition, a unique TouchFlo 3D interface, tri-band GSM and dual-band HSDPA connectivity, GPS, Wi-Fi, Windows Mobile 6.1, 4GB of built-in memory, Opera Web browser, Music and Video players - all in a slim and stylish case that comes with a diamond pattern on the back.

Apple's 3G iPhone, on the other hand, will apparently have similar features, plus a wider display, of about 3.5 inches. Anyway, it's clear that the Touch Diamond and the 3G iPhone will be direct competitors on the "touchscreen mobile market". While for the moment it's impossible to tell which device will be more successful, I guess that in the end it all comes down to the old Windows vs. Mac "war".
