Canadian wireless carrier Bell has just announced officially that it would soon make a new Android-based mobile phone available for purchase on its airwaves, namely the HTC Desire Z. Moreover, the carrier also put a coming soon page for the device on its airwaves.

The new Android 2.2-powered smartphone was rumored before to be on its way to the Canadian market via Bell, but nothing was announced officially on the matter until now.

However, since the coming soon page for HTC Desire Z is already up, all that remains to be seen is when exactly would the device arrive on shelves, as well as what price tag it would sport when made available.

According to Bell, the handset should be put on sale in the coming weeks, exclusively in Canada on its airwaves.

One of the most appealing feature of the new device is the support for download speeds up to 14.4 Mbps that it was packed with, which makes it the first handset to support such speeds in Canada. Moreover, it also comes with Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot capabilities, with support for up to 5 devices.

“Combining performance, style and usability, the HTC Desire Z is both the perfect multimedia companion and a fresh way for connecting with friends, family or colleagues,” said Jason Mackenzie, President of HTC Americas.

“We are thrilled to be working with Bell Mobility to bring this communications experience to their customers, while at the same time providing the first device in North America with enhanced HTC Sense.”

The HTC Desire Z comes to the market with a 3.7-inch WVGA touch display, a 800MHz Qualcomm 7230 processor, 14.4 mbps HSPA+ data and 802.11n connectivity options, a 5MP camera with flash and 720p HD video capture, and other features more.

“The HTC Desire Z is a top-of-the-line device that furthers Bell's promise to offer the best mobile phones in Canada on the best network,” said Adel Bazerghi, Senior Vice President of Products at Bell Mobility.

“We're working closely with HTC to ensure that this new smartphone delivers an exclusive high-speed mobile experience for our clients.”

We should also note that the new HTC Desire Z comes with a new HTC Sense experience on board, which is complemented by the new HTCSense.com service.
