HTC Desire Z is one of the latest Android-based smartphones that Vodafone Australia made available for purchase on its airwaves.

Starting today, mobile phone users in Australia interested in the acquisition of this device would be able to purchase a unit exclusively from the wireless carrier.

“The cousin to the hugely successful Desire HD is now available and exclusive on Vodafone – The HTC Desire Z,” the company notes in a recent blog post.

The new Android-based smartphone was added to the operator's lineup on various monthly plans, starting at $5 per month on the $49 Vodafone monthly cap, with a minimum cost over 24 months of $1176.

The new mobile phone was officially announced back in September 2010, along with the HTC Desire HD, and comes with Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on board.

The specifications list of HTC Desire Z includes an 800MHz application processor, a 3.7 inch touchscreen display that boasts a 480 x 800 WVGA resolution, complemented by a slide out QWERTY keyboard that can enable fast typing.

“The 3.7 inch touch screen is perfect for browsing the web, checking your friends’ latest updates, or catching up on email. Ready to do some serious messaging? Pop open the keyboard — the keys are nicely spaced and raised for fast comfortable typing,” HTC notes on its website.

Moreover, the new smartphone arrives on shelves with a 5.0-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with 720p HD video recording capabilities, 1.5 GB of internal memory, and microSD memory card slot for additional storage space.

At the same time, the HTC Desire Z sports 3G connectivity options, WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities, 3.5 mm stereo audio jack, GPS receiver with support for Google Maps, and more.

It would also offer fast access to Facebook and Twitter courtesy of the HTC Sense UI it comes preloaded with, along with support for various Google Mobile Services, and applications available for download via the Android Market.
