HTC Desire, the flagship smartphone of the Taiwanese manufacturer is one of the most versatile Android-based devices launched on the market. It can be customized in so many ways, rooted and unrooted, as long as you know a few tips and tricks.

Here are some of these tips that will make your experience with the Desire more enjoyable. Feel free to add more of these tips, especially if you're an advanced Android user.

Probably most of you already know, that long-pressing the Stand-by key will bring up a few options, such as Power off, Toggle Silent mode, Toggle Vibration mode, Toggle Airplane mode, Toggle Mobile network.

To set your HTC Desire on Silent mode or Vibration mode, simply press the Volume Down key after the ring volume is 0%. That will turn your phone on Silent mode and then Vibration mode. Reverse the same action to toggle back the phone.

Alt-tabbing between applications can be easily done by long-pressing the Home key. You can only switch between the most recent 6 applications you've been using.

To improve your browser's speed, simply disable Javascript, as many sites work fine with this disabled and you'll definitely feel the difference in loading speeds.

While you're in the browser, if you want to get to your History list, long-press on the Back key.

In the browser history, you can easily and quickly add/remove bookmarks by toggling the stars on the right.

While you're in the dialer, try tapping the contact card icon on the right of each item. That will take you to the respective contact card. If you tap the plus icon, it will allow you to add that number to your contact list.

You can start scrolling (either swiping the list or using the optical trackpad) while in the dialer, to hide the number pad.
