Mobile phone carrier Vodafone UK has just made available for pre-order on its airwaves a new handset running under Google's Android operating system, namely the HTC Desire S, which was unveiled during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, in February. The new device was added to the carrier's offering for free on a £30 per month price plan, but users can also purchase it on lower monthly contracts, including the £25 option, while having to pay £99 upfront for it.

The new smartphone is the successor of the popular HTC Desire smartphone, which was brought to the market last year, and which is available at Vodafone UK as well.

The arrival of Desire S on this carrier's network was announced ever since February, but the phone was put on pre-order only recently.

The new Android-based handset comes with a similar design as the original Desire, though with a series of upgraded hardware, and with new features included into the mix.

“The HTC Desire S boasts a slim and stylish design shaped from a single piece of aluminium, making it feel more solid than the HTC Desire - and lighter too,” Vodafone UK explains on its website.

“And just like on the HTC Desire HD and Sony Ericsson Xperia arc the Desire S has an impressive 3.7" touchscreen that's perfect for showing off photos, enjoying video clips and making everything on the web look clear.”

The specs list of the new device would include a 1GHz application processor, 1.1GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, and an 8GB card included in the package.

Moreover, the new device comes with a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back with HD video recording capabilities, a 1.3-megapixel camera on the front for video calling, GPS receiver, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and support for various Google Mobile Services.

“Just like on the Nexus S the HTC Desire S is powered by Android's latest smartphone operating system - known as Gingerbread. It's easy to use, quick to learn and uses less battery life. Gingerbread also makes typing on a touchscreen simple, so you can send texts and emails quickly,” Vodafone notes.
