Canadian mobile phone maker TELUS and Taiwan-based handset vendor HTC have just announced the availability of a new software update for one of the nicest devices on TELUS' airwaves, the HTC Desire. The update is the Android 2.2 Froyo solution that was announced in early summer.

Canadian mobile phone users heading to TELUS's website to take a look at the HTC Desire would also see the “Upgrade your HTC Desire to Android 2.2 today” message placed on the phone's purchase page.

A quick look at HTC's support website shows that the update is not available for a manual download from there, which means that the carrier would most probably push it over the air to all Desire owners on its network.

Among the features that TELUS touts as being available for those who perform the Android 2.2 upgrade, we can count: - Portable Wi-Fi hotspot capability - Improved browser performance - Apps storage to your memory card

HTC already started to deliver the Android 2.2 Froyo OS upgrade to its HTC Desire users around the world, but the solution arrived a little later via wireless carriers.

However, TELUS did confirm not too long ago plans to upgrade the HTC Desire to Android 2.2 Froyo before October was over, and it seems that the lucky day already arrived.

Since the solution is not available on HTC's website, TELUS will most probably push it over the air to its users, a process that would take some time before completed.

The new OS version should bring some very appealing enhancements to HTC Desire, including a series of performance improvements, along with support for Flash Player 10.1, and more.

Until more info on this emerge, one might want to take a look at the features that TELUS touts for the Android-based HTC Desire: - Easy integration of Google applications and services, just by entering your Google account username and password - Seamless multi-tasking, with the ability to use different applications at the same time - Get a desktop like browsing experience with Adobe Flash Player support to see embedded videos - Multiple home screens that you can fully personalize with your choice of dynamic widgets and applications
