Taiwanese manufacturer HTC has recently announced during a press event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, that it will launch the HTC Desire HD and HTC HD7 smartphones in the country. While no official date has been disclosed yet, rumors point to an early 2011 launch for both devices.

After introducing the first Android smartphone in Saudi Arabia earlier this year, HTC has decided to raise the stakes with two top tier devices, the Android-powered Desire HD and the Windows Phone 7 smartphone HD7.

Speaking at the press event Mohamed Kais Zribi, regional manager of HTC Middle East and North Africa, said:

“Customers in Saudi Arabia have been eagerly awaiting the launch of these new models. As far as the HTC Desire HD is concerned, I am confident that they will fully appreciate the new features and applications that we have introduced, especially its more engaging, intuitive, user-friendly design.”

“We have likewise retained the attention-grabbing features of the phone, taking advantage of the powerful Android platform and the latest version of HTC Sense2.0, which has become a major hit among smartphone users,” added Zribi.

Rumored as HTC Ace, the HTC Desire HD is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8255 1 GHz processor and runs on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) platform out-of-the-box.

The Desire HD features a large 4.3-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

Other highlights of the smartphone include: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, DLNA support, 1.5 GB internal memory, 768 MB RAM, HTC Sense 2.0 UI, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8GB included), 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and dual-LED flash, as well as GPS with A-GPS support.

HTC HD7 is the first Windows Phone 7 smartphone to reach the Middle East. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor and features the same 4.3-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

Other highlights of the WP7 device include: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, HSUPA 2 Mbps, 16GB of internal memory, 512 MB ROM, 576 MB RAM, 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and dual-LED flash and GPS with A-GPS support (Bing Maps).

As for the HTC HD7, this will be a whole new mobile experience for users thanks to Windows Phone 7. The HD7 is packed with features that will excite and engage users, who will also hugely benefit from the level of customization that the phone offers, which is designed to help users find and use the features optimally and easily,” concluded Zribi.
