Three is yet another wireless carrier in the UK to have added the new HTC Desire HD smartphone to its offering. The new Android-based device is already available for purchase with the carrier, for free on monthly plans that start at £40 per month.

The HTC Desire HD comes to the UK market with the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on board, and also sports the latest version of HTC Sense.

Moreover, it was pushed to shelves with one of the largest touchscreen displays on a mobile phone, the same as its US counterpart, the HTC EVO 4G, and as the Windows Phone 7-based HTC HD7.

According to the mobile phone carrier, the new device is great “for surfing the internet, reading and downloading eBooks on the preinstalled reader app and watching high definition movies on Three’s award winning network.”

The 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display is only one appealing feature of the new device.

HTC also packed inside this phone a new 1GHz Snapdragon processor, as well as an 8-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, dual LED flash and HD 720P video recording @ 30 FPS.

In addition to the HD video recording capabilities, the phone comes with Dolby Mobile, so as to deliver immersive, cinema-like sound.

“With wide ranging media capabilities, the HTC Desire HD is a welcome addition to our ever-growing Android family of phones,” Sylvia Chind, Head of branded devices at Three, said.

“The social networking and integrated features of this phone paired with our strong 3G network makes the HTC Desire HD a real stand-out smartphone.”

The HTC Desire HD also comes with DLNA capabilities, enabling users to share media over their home network, as well as with 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options.

The handset packs 1GB of internal memory, complemented by microSD memory card slot with support for additional storage space, and an 8GB card included in the package.

“The HTC Desire HD is available for £40 a month on The One Plan with 2000 any network minutes, 5000 Three-to-Three minutes, 5000 texts and 1GB data,” the wireless carrier announced.

According to the company, its subscribers would also have the possibility to get the phone on a Pay As You Go plan, priced at £449.99 (includes a £10 Top Up).
