Although HTC confirmed several months ago that the Desire HD smartphone would be receiving an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade at some point this year, the Taiwanese handset maker backtracked and said it wouldn’t be releasing the said update.

Fortunately, the folks over at XDA Developers have been able to port an Incredible S build to Desire HD. The ported ROM is fully functional and doesn’t come with any known issues for the moment.

The unofficial custom ROM has been released by XDA Senior member QD2DC and Team Blackout, and includes all the new features and improvements offered by Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich platform. In addition, the new ROM also comes with HTC Sense 3.6 user interface.

HTC Desire HD owners disappointed by the fact that they have been left out can now head over to the original thread on XDA to learn more on how to download and install this Android 4.0.4 ICS ROM.
