Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation announced a while ago plans to bring all of its latest Android-based handsets up to the latest version of the mobile operating system, Gingerbread, and an official test ROM for HTC Desire has just made an appearance into the wild.

Last week, the company started to deliver the Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform to two of its handsets, the HTC Desire HD and the Incredible S, and it seems that it might not be too long before more of them would receive it.

Desire should taste Gingerbread before the spring is over, while the HTC Desire Z should taste it soon after, at least this is what some of the latest reports on the matter suggest.

In the meantime, however, HTC Desire owners out there have the possibility to try out a new flavor of Android on their devices through the said leaked ROM.

The software, compiled for the HTC Bravo (Desire's codename), includes the new Android 2.3 platform, and is meant for the Asian regions, although it is in WWE (Worldwide English).

This shows that HTC is moving closer to finalizing the ROM, which should be delivered to users in various markets around the world around the same time.

The guys over at Pocketnow found the ROM on 911sniper, and those interested in it should head over to the Chinese blog to have a closer look.

Since the ROM already emerged into the wild, it might not be too long before the first custom software built on it starts to emerge, so stay tuned.

No specific info on when would the Gingerbread update start to roll-out on HTC Desire emerged for the time being, but it might not be too long before that happens, as the summer is almost here. The update should be released before May is over, rumor has it.
