As expected, Taiwanese handset maker HTC has taken the wraps off its selfie monster handset, the Desire Eye. The good news is the high-end Android smartphone will be available on the market beginning this month.

According to the company, the HTC Desire Eye will be launched in October through carriers across EMEA, Asia and the United States. Although the handset maker did not share any details regarding the phone’s price, certain retailers have already listed the HTC Desire Eye with a hefty price tag of €530 ($675) attached to it.

Curiously, that puts the Desire Eye in the same price range as the One M8, which is HTC’s current flagship smartphone. That could jeopardize the One M8 sales worldwide, but we believe HTC thinks the Desire Eye has a completely different target than its flagship handset.

Anyway, competition is always good for the customer and HTC fans will certainly be happy that they now have more high-end alternatives to choose from.

Speaking of which, HTC Desire Eye does not seem to enter the mid-range category of smartphones due to its powerful hardware configuration.

The smartphone is equipped with a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor inside, that goes along with an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

In addition, HTC Desire Eye packs 16GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

The Desire Eye is waterproof and comes in two "double-shot" colors

Obviously, the phone’s main selling point is the 13-megapixel front-facing camera, which features dual-LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording. A similar camera is placed on the back of the smartphone as well, thus making the Desire Eye one of the few handsets with dual 13-megapixel cameras.

It’s also worth mentioning that HTC Desire Eye has an IPX7 waterproof rating, which allows it to be submerged under 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

The Desire Eye feature front-facing stereo speakers with BoomSound Audio technology and is powered by a 2400 mAh battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

Last but not least, HTC’s new selfie monster sports a 5.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box.

Potential customers should know HTC Desire Eye will be available for purchase in two “double-shot” colors: Coral Reef (white with an orange-red trim) and Blue Lagoon (dark blue with a light blue trim).
