Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation is gearing up for the release of a new handset in its Desire lineup, namely the HTC Desire C, which made an appearance online only recently.

Apparently, the smartphone is bound to arrive on shelves at Vodafone in the near future; at least this is what newly leaked documents unveiled.

Vodafone Portugal has almost confirmed the phone’s near arrival by including it in its May catalog before an official announcement was made.

A leaked press shot is also available for HTC enthusiasts out there to make a better idea of what the upcoming smartphone would look like when released.

HTC Desire C will bring to the market a load of low-end hardware specifications, which will most probably deliver a similar level of performance.

According to the leaked specs on this smartphone, HTC has packed it with a 3.5-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 320 x 480-pixel resolution.

Moreover, the device is powered by a 600MHz application processor, though it is still capable of offering support for 3.5G (which could mean HSDPA, in fact).

HTC Desire C will hit shelves with 4GB of internal memory, most probably complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for additional storage space.

It is also said to feature a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with video recording and all, but no mention of a front camera is made.

However, we should expect the low-end smartphone to run under the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system, namely Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The HTC Desire C should offer extended usage time, courtesy of its 1230 mAh battery.

According to GSMArena, which brought all these details to light, the smartphone is expected to feature a price tag of under €200 when released (less than $260). The phone might become official soon, so stay tuned to learn more on it.
