Wireless carrier Orange UK has just added a new mobile phone to its online offering, the HTC Desire in black. The handset is already available for purchase in the country via various carriers, yet the Black version is present only in Orange's offering, it seems. The HTC Desire still has the coming soon tag on the operator's website, with no exact details on when it is put on sale, though it is known that it should be available for free upon the signing of a contract agreement.

“Super fast and super sexy, you’ll want to get your hands on the powerful HTC Desire. Don’t be fooled by its slim appearance, it hides a processor that delivers fast web browsing and amazing multimedia. The 3.7 inch touch screen gives brilliant, sharp images, especially those taken on the 5-megapixel camera. Personalize your phone with a multitude of HTC Sense widgets making it all about you,” Orange describes the device.

The specifications list of HTC Desire includes a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, GSM, HSDPA 7.2Mbps, Wi-Fi, USB and Bluetooth connectivity options, A-GPS support, 3.5 mm audio jack, speakerphone, FM radio RDS, accelerometer, optical trackball, HTML browsing, music player, and more. The available memory can be expanded to up to 32GB via a microSD memory card slot.

Measuring 119 x 60 x 11.9 mm, the phone weighs in at 135g and includes a battery capable of delivering up to 6.5 hours of talk time, or up to 14 days of standby time. The HTC Desire is powered by Google's Android 2.1 operating system, on top of which HTC integrated its own user experience, the HTC Sense.

The cheapest monthly plan on which HTC Desire is available is a discounted 'Dolphin' web tariff of £22.50, on which the device is priced at £99.99, though other options should also be offered to users as well. We should mention that Orange has the Brown HTC Desire on its website too, already available for purchase with the same £99.99 price tag on the £22.50 Dolphin plan, which includes 300 anytime minutes, unlimited texts, and Internet and email access. The handset can be snagged for free on discounted monthly plans starting at £30.
