On Thursday, Taiwan-based mobile phone maker HTC Corporation announced plans to deliver a new software update for one of its latest handsets, the HTC Desire. Although the device has just started to emerge at various carriers around Europe, it seems that the handset vendor already considers that it needs a new firmware, even if it does not provide any exact details on what the software actually includes. According to the company, users will receive the solution over-the-air, and all they need to do is to accept it.

“In our commitment to providing you with the best user experience, we are pushing out a new firmware update to you phone. Your phone will receive a notification of this update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Software Number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software information> Software number). The new software number after the update will be 1.15.405.4 for an HTC phone,” is what the company states on its support page.

It's a common fact that HTC Desire landed on the market in Europe and the twin brother of Nexus One, which is already available in the US via Google's web store and which will soon arrive at Vodafone UK too. The new handset comes with HTC's Sense solution on board, but sports the same hardware specs as the older device.

Unfortunately, HTC does not say why the phone needed the newly announced firmware update, nor does it offer other details on it. However, it does say that it recommends “using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply.
