HTC Desire 816, the latest mid-range smartphone from Taiwanese handset vendor HTC Corporation, was put up for pre-order in China about a week ago, and the device has already seen over one million reservations, it seems.

The device managed to score the first half a million reservations in the country in about four days after it was introduced, and it has already doubled that number, proving that users are very interested in the mid-range smartphone segment.

For those out of the loop, we should note that HTC Desire 816 was launched at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month as the company’s flagship mid-ranger and that it comes to the market with a large 5.5-inch touchscreen display.

HTC was very proud of this handset right from the start, and it appears even happier with it now that users in China show so much interest in it (the company took it to weibo to announce the one million reservations achievement, as gforgames notes).

However, as mentioned before, one million reservations in China don’t translate into one million sold units, as users are not required to pay for the handset the moment they order it in advance.

They do have priority when purchasing the phone over those who did not reserve it, but it remains to be seen whether all these people will also decide to buy it.

In fact, the same applies to Nokia X, the first Android device from the Finnish vendor, which registered one million reservations in four days. However, while this phone is aimed at the entry-level market, the Desire 816 aims a bit higher, courtesy of more powerful hardware specifications.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Desire 816 will hit shelves with a 720p touchscreen display and that it will be powered by a 1.6 GHz Cortex-A7 quad-core processor.

Moreover, HTC unveiled it with 1.5GB of RAM inside, as well as with 8GB of internal memory and with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 64GB of external storage space.

HTC Desire 816 also features a 13-megapixel camera on the back, with LED flash and support for full HD video recording, as well as a 5MP front camera for making video calls while on the go.

The handset comes with the entire range of usual connectivity capabilities, as well as with a Li-Po 2600mAh battery inside. Moreover, it runs under the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system right from the start.
