HTC announced back in March that it would offer Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrades to Desire 816 and Desire EYE owners sometime in April.

True to its promise, the first Lollipop updates for Desire 816 went live last month, but Indian customers were not among the first to receive them.

Today, a new report confirms HTC Desire 816 devices in India have finally started getting the highly-anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop update. It looks like the update is about 860MB in size and it's pushed OTA (over the air) in stages.

According to the official changelog, HTC Desire 816 owners are recommended to use a Wi-Fi connection for the update to avoid extra charges that might occur when using mobile data connection.

Also, make sure that your phone's battery is at least 50% charged before attempting to download and install Android 5.0 Lollipop.

While HTC confirmed that updating to Lollipop shouldn't erase any data from the smartphone, it's recommended to back your media data on your PC, memory card.

Improvements to Lock screen and Notification

Moving on to new features and improvements included in the update, the official changelog mentions that enhancements have been made to Lock screen and Notification areas.

There's a new Lollipop UI style with enhanced privacy features. Recent apps supports multiple pages now and developers have also added the search function within settings.

Since the update is rolled out in stages, it might take a few days until it reaches all HTC Desire 816 devices, so if it's not yet available on your phone you might want to wait a couple of days.

In order to manually check for the update, make sure you head to Settings / Software updates / Check now. If the update shows up on your phone, you can choose to either download it right away or schedule it for later.
