Apparently, HTC Desire 816’s pre-orders recently surpassed the amazing 1 million milestone, which is something really wondrous for the money-bleeding Taiwanese handset maker.

The mid-range smartphone is one of the few devices launched by HTC that managed to actually increase the company’s shares. Hopefully, HTC share costs will rise even more once the company unveils its next flagship smartphone on March 25.

Until then, HTC fans will be offered the chance to purchase a solid mid-range Android smartphone that goes by the name of Desire 816.

HTC Desire 816 will be launched later this week in China for only $290 (€210) outright, but it will be made available in other countries as well.

Chinese site ePrice has just previewed the HTC Desire 816 a few days ahead of its official release on the market. Moreover, the smartphone has been pictured alongside another mid-range smartphone that should make its debut in China soon, Sony’s Xperia T2 Ultra.

Those patiently waiting for the Desire 816 to arrive in their countries should know that the model previewed by ePrice is the dual-SIM version, which is known in China as HTC Desire 816w.

Aside from dual-SIM capabilities, it also comes with some Chinese-related apps and services that will not be included in the international version. HTC Desire 816 has been confirmed last week to be powered by the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box.

However, the Taiwanese handset maker did not load the latest version of Sense UI on its mid-range Desire 816, so those expecting to receive HTC Sense 6.0 UI will probably be disappointed to hear that the device will run version 5.5. Still, we should not rule out the possibility of a future upgrade to HTC Sense 6.0 UI.

Specs-wise, the HTC Desire 816 is a “pure” mid-range handset. The smartphone is equipped with a 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, an Adreno 305 graphics processing unit, as well as 1.5GB of RAM.

It also sports a 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution, which may put it in the phablet range concerning size.

Another strong point of the Desire 816 would be the 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, which features autofocus, LED flash, and full HD (1080p) video recording. A secondary 5-megapixel front-facing camera is included as well.

On a side note, customers in China will be offered the dual-SIM version of Sony Xperia T2 Ultra, whereas the single-SIM model will be released in other countries.
