Following the recent speculations regarding HTC Desire 816 strong sales in China, HTC UK has just teased the upcoming availability of the mid-range smartphone in the United Kingdom.

According to various Chinese publications, HTC received no less than 450,000 pre-orders in just 72 hours for the Desire 816, which abruptly resulted in a small bump of its shares.

Even though HTC UK has not offered any details on when exactly the smartphone will go on sale in the UK, customers in the country may want to take into consideration the upcoming release of the Desire 816 before investing in other devices.

Speaking of which, HTC is expected to launch its next flagship smartphone in less than two weeks, so Android fans and enthusiast who are more into the high-end devices may want to wait for March 25 to see what the Taiwanese company has prepared for us.

Back to the HTC Desire 816, we expect the smartphone to be priced at around £315 (€375 / $525), but this has yet to be confirmed by the handset maker.

The high amount of HTC Desire 816 pre-orders comes amid news that the smartphone will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box.

Unlike many mid-range smartphones announced last month at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 trade fair, HTC decided to include the latest version of Google’s mobile platform into the Desire 816, which was a smart move for the troubled handset maker.

It’s also worth mentioning that HTC Desire 816 is a solid device even for the mid-range class. The smartphone is armed with a powerful enough Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.6GHz, as well as an Adreno 305 graphics processing unit.

The large 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display puts the Desire 816 in the phablet category. The screen supports HD (720p) resolution and around 267ppi (pixel density).

Another strong point that will probably be heavily pitched by HTC’s marketing department is the impressive 13-megapixel rear-facing camera that features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

In the front, there’s also a no less impressive 5-megapixel camera that can also capture 720p videos. HTC Desire 816 packs 1.5GB of RAM and only 8GB of internal memory, but the smartphone features microSD card slot, so users will be able to further expand storage up to 64GB.

The full connectivity package is included in the Desire 816 as well, such as LTE, HSDPA, HSUPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, along with NFC (Near Field Communication) and GPS with GLONASS.
