We were reporting on HTC Desire 612 yesterday as an upcoming mid-range Android smartphone for Verizon, and now it looks like the device has been made official.

The Desire 612 was spotted on the carrier’s equipment guide support site earlier this week, and a few press pictures of the unannounced smartphone leaked ahead of the official release as well, along with some of its specs.

Today, the Big Red has announced that the HTC Desire 612 will be available for purchase beginning October 9 for free on new two-year activation. According to the carrier, the Verizon Edge will be available for eligible customers as well.

Moreover, Verizon has confirmed that “for a limited time, customers who activate or upgrade to a new smartphone on The MORE Everything Plans with at least 1 GB of data will get an extra 1 GB of bonus data per month for up to 24 months, as long as that smartphone remains active on The MORE Everything Plan.”

As mentioned in our previous report, Verizon’s exclusive Desire 612 is similar when it comes to specs with AT&T’s HTC Desire 610 that was released in the United States during the summer. Keep in mind that the Desire 612 will only be available in black color when it goes on sale tomorrow.

"An affordable smartphone with features you'd expect on a premium device"

HTC Desire 612’s main selling point will be the fact that it comes with XLTE support, which provides users with faster peak speeds and better network capacity in regions where XLTE was rolled out.

In addition, the mid-range smartphone comes with dual-front stereo speakers and BoomSound audio technology. The Desire 612 sports a 4.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD resolution, while on the back there’s an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, and video recording.

The smartphone packs a secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls and selfies as well. Details are scarce when it comes to hardware, but Verizon does mention that the Desire 612 is equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor.

Although this information is not confirmed by the carrier yet, we suspect that the smartphone has 1GB of RAM. We also know that the device comes with only 8GB of internal memory, but users will be able to further expand storage up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Last but not least, HTC Desire 612 is powered by a 2040mAh battery and ships with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box.
