We reported a few days ago that the unexpectedly popular HTC Desire 816 was available for pre-order in the UK and would hit shelves in the first week of May.

Today, the same UK-based retailer Clove has announced that another mid-range Android smartphone is now up for pre-order via its webstore, the Desire 610.

Customers in the UK can now pre-order the HTC Desire 610 in Navy for only £235 (€285 / $395) outright via Clove. According to the retailer, the smartphone should go on sale beginning early May.

Clove also mentions that the white version of the device is available for pre-order as well, but no payment will be deducted until the release date is confirmed.

“The white version is currently still on pre-order (no payment taken) whilst we await an arrival date. You can also register your interest for the red version as we wait for more information on this.”

Keep in mind that Clove sells the SIM-free version of the HTC Desire 610, but the smartphone might be offered by some UK carriers as well.

The quad-core smartphone will ship with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, which is one of the downsides of the mid-range handset.

Unlike the Desire 610, the HTC Desire 816 that we reported on a few days ago comes with Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform onboard. Hopefully, HTC will offer a KitKat upgrade for the Desire 610 soon after its release in Europe.

Apart from the rather old version of Android, the Desire 610 offers pretty decent specs. The smartphone is equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, an Adreno 305 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

It also packs 8GB of internal memory, but users will be able to further expand storage up to 64GB via microSD memory card. Various cloud service providers will also offer some free cloud storage to smartphone users if that’s what you are looking for.

HTC Desire 610 sports a 4.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution. It also comes with an enhanced 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) resolution.

There’s also a secondary 1.3-megapixel camera in the front for video calls, along with a decent 2040 mAh battery.

Surprisingly for a mid-range smartphone, the Desire 610 also comes with LTE support. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, as well as microUSB, HSPA+ and GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS.
