The former is now available for £240 (€290 / $400) off contract

HTC Desire 610 was released on the market a few months ago and made it to the UK in early January. However, the smartphone was exclusively available via O2 UK, but starting today it can be purchased via major retailer Clove as well.

The unlocked version of HTC Desire 610 is now available in black color via Clove for only £240 (€290 / $400) outright. The red version of the smartphone remains exclusive to O2, but it might arrive at other authorized resellers in the UK soon.

HTC Desire 601 ships with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but potential customers should not worry as the Taiwanese company has already confirmed an Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade will arrive by the end of March.

Alongside the Desire 601, Clove announced it kicked off pre-orders for the newly announced Desire 610 and 816. However, given the fact the smartphones have not been priced yet, no payment is required to pre-order the Desire 610 and 816.

According to Clove, price and availability will be confirmed in the not-so-distant future. Keep in mind, though, that Desire 601 is the cheapest of the three, so expect to pay more than £240 (€290 / $400) upfront for any of the two devices.

Unlike Desire 601, the HTC Desire 816 will not need an upgrade as the smartphone will be delivered with Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform onboard. Even though Clove mentions HTC Desire 610 will be powered by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, it says the same about the Desire 816, which is inaccurate.

We expect more details on which version of Android each two smartphones will run at launch, in the next couple of days, but we suspect they will run the latest iteration of Google’s mobile platform.

In terms of hardware, the Desire family has always been aimed at the mid-range smartphone market, so expect these three devices to offer features that can be filed under this category.

As expected, the better-featured of the three, HTC Desire 816 will come equipped with a 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB of RAM and a large 5.5-inch HD (720p) capacitive touchscreen display.

The Desire 610 packs “only” a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 CPU clocked at 1.2GHz, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. The smartphone also sports a slightly smaller 4.7-inch qHD (540 x 960 pixels) display.
