Today, Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation made official a new smartphone in India, in the form of HTC Desire 600, a handset that has been available for purchase in the country for several weeks.

The new device comes with Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top, and with a price tag of Rs. 26,990 ($457 / €347) attached to it. It is available for purchase through retailers across the country, AndroidOS notes.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the HTC Desire 600 smartphone was announced in late May as a mid-range handset with a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor packed inside.

“The HTC Desire 600 Dual SIM combines speed and easy multitasking with the truly innovative HTC BlinkFeed home screen,” Faisal Siddiqui, country head, HTC India, said.

“The result is an affordable mid-range phone that sets the standard for its class, keeping the busiest user up-to-date at a glance and offering them the power and range of features to switch between work and play.”

The mobile phone landed on shelves in India with dual-SIM capabilities packed inside, with a Dual-Active feature, so that users could get the most out of it.

Furthermore, it sports 4.5-inch qHD (960 x 540 pixels) Super LCD 2 display, the aforementioned quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal memory, as well as a microSD memory card slot to allow users to add extra storage to it.

The specifications list of the new smartphone also includes an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with LED flash and HD video capabilities, as well as a 1.6MP front camera for video calling.

HTC Desire 600 also sports HTC’s ImageChip for improved processing, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX, and support for Dual-band HSPA and tri-band GSM/EDGE frequencies. At the same time, it features NFC support, GPS receiver with AGPS, and an 1860 mAh battery.
