Today, handset vendor HTC Corporation made official a new smartphone running under Google’s Android operating system, namely the Desire 500, a mid-range device set to arrive on shelves with a price tag of NT$11,900 ($398 / €302) attached to it.

The handset will become available for purchase via retailers as soon as tomorrow, July 24, and will be released through HTC and Taiwan Mobile stores too, starting with August 1.

The new mobile phone arrives on the market with a 4.3-inch WVGA touchscreen display, while being powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, though paired with only 1GB of RAM.

Furthermore, the HTC Desire 500 packs 4GB of internal memory, along with a microSD memory card slot for storage expansion purposes.

The specifications list of the new device also includes an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with LED flash, auto focus, BSI sensor, F2.0 aperture, 28mm lens, and built-in HTC ImageChip.

On the front, the Android-based handset packs a 1.6-megapixel camera with BSI Sensor, which should prove great for making video calls while on the go.

The HTC Desire 500 sports an 1800 mAh battery inside, while measuring 131.8 x 66.9 x 9.9 mm. The mobile phone weighs 123 grams.

The specifications list of the new device also includes Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity options, NFC, DLNA capabilities, 3.5mm audio jack, and built-in GPS receiver, with AGPS.

Running under Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system with the HTC Sense 5 UI loaded on top (with exclusive features such as Blinkfeed and Video Highlights), the new mobile phone also sports Beats Audio technology inside, for an enhanced audio experience while on the go.

As AndroidOS notes in a recent article, the new Desire 500 smartphone is aimed mainly at young audiences, and will be released in a variety of color options.
