Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation is gearing up for the launch of some more affordable devices, including one that could hit shelves as HTC Desire 316, the latest reports on the matter claim.

The handset is allegedly set to arrive on shelves in China in the not too distant future and will pack about the same specs as the Desire 516, though it won’t feature support for two SIM cards, the guys over at Xdkb.net claim.

Apparently, the two smartphones will also share the same design, though it remains to be seen what elements will differentiate them.

As PhoneArena notes, however, we should not expect the new, unannounced mobile phone to turn up with high-end capabilities.

Instead, it will be released as an entry- to mid-range handset, most probably with an affordable price tag attached to it, so as to appeal to as many customers as possible.

When it comes to hardware specifications, we might see the new device being announced with a 5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution, the same as Desire 516.

This phone has already been detailed a bit and is said to arrive on the market with a quad-core processor inside, though the clock speed of its cores will differ between models, it seems.

Thus, we’ll see a Desire 516t version being announced with a 1.3GHz CPU inside, while a Desire 516w variant is expected to be launched with a 1.2GHz processor. The latter is supposedly designed for the international market, and it might be powered by a Qualcomm chipset.

Rumor also has it that Desire 516t will sport only 512MB of RAM inside, while Desire 516w will arrive with 1GB of RAM. However, no official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now.

HTC’s new entry-level device is also said to feature a 5-megapixel camera on the back, while running under Google’s Android Jelly Bean operating system right from the start.

Overall, said Desire 316 should feature about the same specs mentioned above, though chances are that HTC will tweak some of them, so as to differentiate the two devices and to be able to launch them at different price points.

One way or the other, we’re still uncertain on what these smartphones might turn up in the end, so we’ll have to wait for an official announcement from HTC to learn more on them. Keep an eye on this space for updates.
