Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC has just released a hotfix for a recently discovered bug in some of its handsets running under the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system. The hotfix is already available for download from the company's website, and it comes towards users of an HTC Touch Pro or a Touch Diamond device that are also Sprint customers.

What the issue in question consists of includes the fact that, as soon as we entered the new year, any SMS messages on the phones were dated 2016, and not 2010. It might not be too much of a problem to some people out there, but it certainly is an annoying issue, and now it can easily be fixed by downloading and installing the new software solutions from HTC.

“Please follow the instructions below to download and install a hotfix that will correct this issue. The hotfix will resolve the issue causing incoming SMS messages to display the incorrect year, and it will correct the incorrect year on SMS messages that were received prior to installing this hotfix,” the company notes on its support site both for the Touch Pro and for the Touch Diamond handset.

At the same time, the handset vendor mentions that the hotfix is meant for Touch Pro devices that are running under ROM 2.01.651.6, and that Touch Diamond phones need to be running ROM 2.00.651.7. In case these firmware versions are not installed on the handsets, one can find them available for download from HTC's website, here for Touch Pro and here for Touch Diamond.

According to HTC, in case one performs a hard reset of the phone, the hotfix will have to be installed once again. At the same time, the company further says that, “If any software was installed to bypass the MCTS functionality of the device, the device may need to be hard reset prior to this hotfix being installed.”

Head over to HTC's support page for detailed instructions on how to install the new software on your devices. The hotfix for Touch Pro is available here, while the one for Touch Diamond can be found here.
