A new software update is now available for download for the owners of an HTC HD2 smartphone on the airwaves of Vodafone, Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC announced officially via its support website.

The new solution is being delivered in the form of a new ROM for the high-end Windows Mobile-based handset.

“An updated ROM is now available for HTC HD2 (Vodafone) users to download. As always, HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience,” the company notes on its website.

Those interested in downloading and installing the solution should know that it is not compatible with the HTC HD2 devices available for purchase in the US via T-Mobile.

The new ROM comes with the following versions, depending on language: English: 3.14.161.3, German: 3.14.162.5, Dutch: 3.14.172.3, Spanish: 3.14.164.4.

“Before you proceed, please confirm that this software upgrade is a newer version than what is currently installed on your device. If it is the same version and your device is operating normally, there is no need to reinstall the software,” HTC notes on its website.

To check on the software version on the HTC HD2, users would need to click Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab, where they would find the ROM version, CPU, and Radio version.

“This is a generic software update. Any additional software or settings provided by your mobile operator or company will be lost. If you require this customization, please contact your supplier first before upgrading,” the handset vendor also notes.

Before proceeding with the update, users should perform a backup of all data on their devices, so as to make sure that no important files are lost during the update process. The update would erase all data on the handset.

To install the new solution, one would have to head to HTC's support website here to download the new ROM, and to perform the upgrade via a Windows-based desktop PC. The battery on HD2 should be at least at 50%. The entire process would take up to 30 minutes.
