HTC is getting ready to provide users of HTC Sensation devices with an upgrade to the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, complemented by some key features from Sense 4.0 as well.

However, it will not offer them the full Sense 4.0 experience, although it was expected to do so.

The Taiwanese mobile phone maker concluded that the hardware inside devices in its Sensation lineup wouldn’t cope well with the full Sense 4.0 UI.

As such, the handset vendor decided to remove some demanding features from the mix, but it will still offer users most of the enhancements in Sense 4.0.

HTC has already confirmed its plans on the matter, after starting to push the new software update to some of its smartphones out there, Recombu reports.

“HTC Sense brings a variety of new software enhancements to HTC One, some of which utilize the latest hardware innovations, meaning not all functionality can be introduced to older HTC Devices,” the mobile phone maker reportedly stated.

“With that said, we are looking to bring a Sense 4 software update that includes as many of the enhancements as possible to a variety of our new devices.”

Apparently, HTC is currently sending out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system upgrade with the HTC Sense 3.6 UI on board.

For the time being, however, the company did not offer specific info on the features that had been stripped off the Sense 4.0 user interface.

Anyway, it appears that the update comes with both visual and performance enhancements on Sensation devices, at least this is what the guys over at Recombu note.

They managed to update the HTC Sensation XE to Ice Cream Sandwich with the new Sense 3.6 UI inside, and they are pleasantly impressed with the result. Hopefully, the owners of other Sensation devices will be as well.
