It should be announced as the international version of the new HTC J Butterfly

At the end of July, Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation made official a new flavor of its HTC J Butterfly smartphone in Japan, where wireless carrier KDDI has added it to its offering.

The phone has spotted online a few times before going official, when it has also been rumored to become available internationally, yet HTC didn’t reveal anything on such plans during the official launch event.

The original HTC J Butterfly, which was launched in Japan first too, was released worldwide, which suggested that the new model would suffer a similar fate too.

As it turns out, this might indeed happen, even though no official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now.

Leaked press photos available courtesy of UpLeaks confirm the existence of an HTC Butterfly 2 smartphone, which features the same looks as the new HTC J Butterfly does, thus suggesting that we’re looking at two different versions of the same device.

HTC Butterfly 2 should also arrive on shelves with the same hardware specs and capabilities as 2014’s HTC J Butterfly did, save for those built specifically for KDDI.

Thus, it might be announced with a 5-inch touchscreen display that can boast a full HD resolution, as well as with a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor inside.

Moreover, the smartphone should sport 2GB of RAM, which will ensure appealing performance capabilities when paired with the aforementioned CPU.

The same as HTC J Butterfly, it might include 32GB of internal memory, as well as a microSD memory card slot, so that users could easily expand the available storage.

As can be seen in the aforementioned leaked images, the handset also sports a duo-camera setup on the back, similar to that on the HTC One (M8) flagship.

However, HTC J Butterfly was announced with a 13 megapixel "Duo Effect" camera, and not with the 4-megapixel Duo "UltraPixel" camera that the latest member of the One family includes, and it remains to be seen which of them will be present on Butterfly 2.

One the front, the yet unannounced device could feature a 5MP camera, which should provide users with a great experience when it comes to snapping selfies or making video calls while on the go.

In addition to the usual connectivity capabilities and sensors, HTC Butterfly 2 should sport the Android 4.4 KitKat OS when released, along with dual front-facing speakers. The handset might also be water-resistant, as one of the leaked images suggests.

As mentioned above, HTC has yet to officially confirm the new mobile phone, so take the above with a grain of salt until that happens. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
