Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC was once the largest provider of devices running under Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system, yet the company is selling at the moment more Android devices than Windows Phones.

However, it seems that they are still confident that Microsoft's mobile operating system will eventually manage to leave other platforms behind, and that it will prove a great competitor to Google's Android platform as well.

HTC has already unveiled to the world its first devices to run under the new Windows Phone Mango operating system, namely the HTC Radar and the TITAN, and is expected to unveil some more of them soon.

In the meantime, they are launching the new devices in various markets around the globe, and have just made the Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) handsets official in Singapore.

During the launch event, HTC’s manager in the country, Melvin Chua, confirmed that the handset vendor is confident that the Windows Phone platform will succeed.

“We believe that Windows Phone 7 will eventually be better than other platforms and will give Android a run for its money,” Chua said, according to ZDNet Asia.

HTC says that 30 percent of their sales in Singapore are Windows Phone devices, and that Android is losing ground.

One thing that is certain, however, is the fact that various analysts share the same confidence in the power of Windows Phone to overcome other platforms on the mobile market.

While it might not become the leading mobile OS out there, the platform is expected to climb up to the second position, leaving Apple's iOS behind.

According to some analysts, Windows Phone will become the second best mobile OS in the world by 2015, while others argue that it could very well leave Android behind as well, and that it will do so in the next couple of years. Only time will tell.
