A heavily modified version

Taiwan-based mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has become famous courtesy of some of its industry firsts, including the T-Mobile G1, the Nexus One, or the HTC EVO 4G. And since some of its handsets were received quite well in the markets where they were launched, the company is reportedly considering making them available in more countries around the world. This seems to be the case for HTC EVO 4G too, which might arrive in the UK as the recently leaked/rumored HTC Ace.

Of course, these are only speculations for the time being, but the chances that they would pan out are higher than zero, it seems. First of all, the rumored form factor, features and operating system on the device would suggest that it is closely related to the EVO 4G, which was released a while ago in the United States on the airwaves of Sprint. However, the fact that this handset packs WiMAX connectivity, something yet unavailable in the UK, might suggest otherwise.

According to a recent article on Pocket-lint, the rumors on HTC Ace's arrival as a HTC EVO 4G variant might be more that mere speculation. An unnamed source told the news site that UK would receive the HTC Ace with the same 4.3-inch touchscreen display as the EVO, with Android on board, and with looks that resembled the HD2.

Moreover, the news site says that Eric Lin, HTC's global PR and online community manager, said that the company does not has something to announce on this area, but that carriers in Europe might actually be interested in such a device. According to him, “you’ll definitely see European carriers be like 'uh-oh, maybe we should get something like that'. But I don’t have anything [to announce] quite yet.”

For what it's worth, Lin's sayings do not exclude the possibility that the company would bring some sort of a HTC EVO 4G model to the European market, even if heavily modified (in the connectivity side, of course). Thus, the HTC Ace might very well be that handset, in case the rumor pans out in the end.
