Wireless carrier Sprint has been rumored for quite some time now to be on its way to bring to the market a mobile phone that sports WiMAX connectivity options, and its seems that things are getting a little more clearer now, with new available details on the device. The phone in question should come from HTC, and it was previously rumored to come as HTC A9292, yet now it also has a codename, Supersonic.

According to Engadget, the handset will come to the market running under Google's Android operating system, should resemble, at least when its raw power is involved, to the WM-based HTC HD2, and is expected to sport a 4.3-inch non-AMOLED display. As for the OS on it, it should be Android 2.1 with HTC's Sense solution thrown over it, something that was somehow expected, one should agree (this is not the first 2.1-based phone from HTC, and Sense was said to come on most of them).

Among the other details that surfaced on this handset, we can count “a svelte shell,” as the news site notes, pointing out that “the HD2 is 11mm thick, but we don't have exact dimensions here.” In addition, the upcoming Supersonic is said to come with a kickstand on the back, something that the HTC Imagio available at the moment in the US via Verizon Wireless also has.

It seems that the handset has been spotted in white, but there are no details on whether it will come to the market dressed in this color or various other options will be available. As for the launch date, info on it lacks as well, mainly due to a “buggy” software on the handset, which suggests that one should not expect it to arrive in the very near future.

Even if some of the most important details are missing at the moment, it still nice to know that WiMAX subscribers at Sprint will be able to enjoy an Android device with a fast processor inside, which might be Snapdragon. Hopefully, the phone will make it on shelves in 2010, since the year has just begun, but nothing is certain until officially unveiled. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
