HTC is prepping another octa-core smartphone

We all know that HTC is expected to come bearing its latest flagship, the One M9 or Hima, which is set to be unveiled during the MWC 2015 event in Barcelona.

But HTC appears to be prepping another high-end device to show during the event as well, although bear in mind that it’s not a flagship model.

HTC A55 is in the pipeline

According to Upleaks, the A55 is going to be part of the Desire lineup, but that doesn't mean its specifications aren't potent enough to make a good impression.

The A55 will arrive with a 5.5-inch WQHD display (2560 x 1440 pixel resolution), the kind Huawei’s President said would put a negative toll on battery life. But HTC seems to think it will manage to pull it off.

Anyway, under the hood lies a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek MT6795 processor clocked at 2.0GHz and backed up by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

The handset is expected to take advantage of a 20MP back camera with LED flash and a 13MP (or 4MP UltraPixel camera) up in front.

The A55 won’t rely on a huge battery (source says it will be less than 3,000 mAh), so it will be interesting to see what the life cycle of the device is going to be like.

Other specifications include BoomSound speakers, Bluetooth 4.1, Desire Sense 7.0 UI on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop.

HTC will offer the handset in White Rose Gold, Gray and Brown Gold. Expect to see the new model arrive in time for the big event at Barcelona.

The HTC A55 will arrive in two flavors

The company will offer the handset in two variants, a single SIM one for the EMEA region and a dual SIM one destined for the Asian markets.

What do you think? Will the A55 make you think once or twice before picking up the company’s next flagship device Hima?
