Only the unlocked 8X version has been confirmed so far

The HTC 8X is the only smartphone launched by the Taiwanese handset maker that’s been confirmed for a Windows Phone 8.1 update. The information was shared a few months ago, but HTC did not offer too many details on the update’s roadmap.

Many HTC 8X owners took it to the company’s social accounts and forums to try and get some answers on the pressing matter of Windows Phone 8.1 for their favorite smartphone.

Few were successful in getting a straight answer from the handset maker, but those who did get one were kind enough to share the info with the world.

About a month ago, HTC confirmed that Verizon’s 8X would be getting the update in late October. However, we’re already one week into November and Windows Phone 8.1 has yet to arrive on Verizon’s version of 8X.

And the bad news doesn’t stop here, as HTC revealed recently they had hit some issues that forced them to delay the Windows Phone 8.1 update for Verizon 8X.

No ETA has been confirmed for the release of the new build, so all we can do now is wait for HTC to announce when it manages to fix these issues.

In the meantime, HTC has already started the rollout of the Windows Phone 8.1 for 8X in some countries, but mostly the update is available for the unlocked version of the smartphone.

The UK is not one of the countries where HTC kicked off the deployment of the Windows Phone 8.1 firmware, but that is about to change in the next couple of weeks.

Sprint's HTC 8XT will be getting the update in early December

As per HTC’s tweet, they plan to roll the update in the UK later this month. This means that unlocked HTC 8X owners in the country should start checking for the new firmware in about two weeks from now.

Hopefully, the Taiwanese company doesn’t hit any other issues that would prevent it from delivering on its promise. Speaking of which, HTC 8XT, Sprint’s variant of the handset, was recently confirmed to receive Windows Phone 8.1 in early December.

Keep in mind that, given the fact that the rollout will be made in stages, it will most likely take some time until it reaches all devices.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Verizon customers will get the Windows Phone 8.1 for HTC 8X ahead of Sprint's.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for any additional details on Windows Phone 8.1 update for the HTC 8X, so stay tuned for more info on the matter.

Thank you, Kevin!
