14 DAY TRIAL // We recently reported on the HTC 8X getting the long-awaited Windows Phone 8.1 update at Rogers Canada, and now it looks like another major carrier has decided it's time to deliver the update as well.
Verizon Wireless has just published the official changelog of the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 for HTC 8X and confirmed the new version of the OS will go live today.
There are already reports coming from HTC 8X owners that confirm they have received the update and successfully installed it on their devices. However, keep in mind that this is a staged rollout, which means it might take up to a few days until it reaches all HTC 8X smartphones.
You can manually check for software version 3030.0.52009.605 from the Setting menu, but if it's not yet available, you might want to try again later.
Moving on to the changes it brings, Verizon confirms Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 adds Cortana, which will allow users to set reminders, add appointments to their calendar, search device and the web for content, as well as start apps to make calls or texts.

Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 also included some start screen enhancements, such as the option to add a background image to tiles, or the possibility to change the tile layout from two to three column layout.
The Action Center has received customizable Notifications setting screen and quick access to Wi-Fi, email, Flight Mode and Notifications.
Furthermore, the update adds Word Flow keyboard and custom volume levels, so HTC 8X users will be able to select volumes for different activities (ringer, media playback). You can also switch the phone to silent or vibrate mode.
Internet Explorer 11 and Skype call integration will be implemented as well, along with Universal search capability. Lots of Sense apps will be installed, including Data Sense, Storage Sense and Wi-Fi Sense.
