The Global Certification Forum has just approved a new HTC device, the HTC 7 Trophy, which might turn out to be a new Windows Phone 7-based handset from the leading mobile phone maker.

Although the GCF documentation does not offer details on the platform under which the new device is running, there are great chances that the 7 it includes in its codename would point in this direction and not towards other OSes HTC uses for its devices, such as Android or Brew MP.

However, all that is known on the new device for the time is that it should be released with support for quad band GSM / GPRS / EDGE and dual-band UMTS / HSDPA / HSUPA at 900 / 2100 MHz.

Based on the connectivity options, we can say that the handset should be released on the market in Europe and Asia, yet it won't go to the North American shelves, it seems.

According to a recent article on the unwired, the new mobile phone might become available on shelves sometimes in mid- to late-October, as it usually takes about 6 to 8 weeks for GCF devices to be released on the market.

Based on this assumption, the news site says that the handset might indeed be released with Windows Phone 7 on board, especially since Microsoft is set to make the first such devices available sometime in October.

Although there is no confirmation on what the new HTC mobile phone is all about, its emergence might be put in line with other news on Windows Phone 7 too.

For example, another HTC device, the long rumored HD3, was said recently to be headed for the market with Microsoft's OS on board, while being renamed to HD7 to honor the platform.

Moreover, the OS was announced as being released to manufacturing on Wednesday, and it makes sense that new handsets would emerge into the wild following this announcement.

News on a HTC Trophy surfaced previously, suggesting that we're to see a candybar device that boasts a QWERTY keyboard and a capacitive VGA screen.
