HP iPAQ 900, the smartphone first unveiled in the autumn of 2007, will be finally available for purchase at the end of June (more exactly, on the last day of the month), although it should have been released much earlier.
This delay is definitely not a good thing, neither for HP nor for the mobile users that want to buy the iPAQ 900, but it does bring a positive thing: the smartphone will run on the latest Windows Mobile 6.1, although initially it was announced to be released with Windows Mobile 6.0.
The full name of this new HP device is "HP iPAQ 900 Series Business Messenger", hence it's obviously targeted for users who need business-featured handsets and don't care too much about design or size. Because if they cared about these aspects, I'm not sure how many iPAQ 900 would be sold. The handset measures 113 x 64 x 16 millimeters, weighs 146 grams and has a very sober overall look.
The features that HP packed into the iPAQ 900 include: a 2.46 inch TFT display with 320 x 240 pixels and 65K colors, A-GPS (assisted GPS), quad-band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz), tri-band HSDPA connectivity (850 / 1900 / 2100 MHz), Wi-Fi, a full QWERTY keypad, a 3 Megapixel camera with auto focus, digital zoom and video recording, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, a 2.5mm headset jack, USB 2.0, handsfree, built-in speaker and so on. Plus, since it runs on Windows Mobile 6.1, the smartphone will also bring the latest versions of Office Mobile, Outlook Mobile and Internet Explorer Mobile.
HP iPAQ 900 should be available worldwide, starting with the date mentioned at the beginning of the article. The price of the Pocket PC was not unveiled yet, but users should not expect an affordable one anyway.
