The company has scheduled a big announcement for that day

Corporations make announcements all the time, but when one such announcement is about another announcement that will come later, you know that you're supposed to pay attention. Especially if that company is a world-leader in at least one field, like HP is here.

Not that computers are the area that the announcement is supposed to be about. Instead, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise has said that the group is ready to extend into new markets.

HP recently made the decision to split into two companies. Hewlett-Packard Enterprise would continue to be led by Meg Whitman, and the second would be known as HP Inc. and would look for new pastures while being led by Dion Weisler.

It's not totally clear what markets each half of the company will focus on, but since this is just a refinement of the plan that Leo Apotheker was fired over, we can make a guess.

HP Inc. will likely stick to the enterprise sector, while Hewlett-Packard Enterprise will keep the PC segment and see what other areas it can expand in, since PCs have been losing traction lately.

Why the HP Inc. announcement could be about 3D printing

Back in early 2014, CEO Meg Whitman said that the company was preparing to make a big technology announcement about 3D printing technology.

However, while the announcement was supposed to happen in June, later plans changed the date to October. Now that we're half-way past October, it's about time that announcement happened.

In truth, it was assumed that plans had changed again and that no big reveal would happen this month after all. Now that the company is splitting, however, we're pretty sure it's going down.

Dion Weisler, the new CEO of  HP Inc., has stated recently that the corporation will try to innovate in traditional markets while reaching into new ones.

The press release itself will happen in New York City on October 29, which is next Wednesday. There will actually be two events, one at 9:00AM – 12PM, and the second from 6:00PM – 9:00PM. No clues exist for the specific topics of either of them.

Alternatives to the 3D printing rumor

HP Inc. could go against what the former HP company had in mind and not join 3D printing industry after all, but we doubt it. Still, some rumors have been saying that HP won't be joining the market yet, and we have to say that odds aren't very high that an entrance now would be enough to get something major done by Christmas or CES 2015 (January).

Unless HP has been secretly preparing a 3D printer and/or printing service, in which case we'll be watching closely.
