And hopes to do so with new MFPs

If you've ever printed a single sheet of paper, you must have heard of Hewlett-Packard, probably because it was an HP printer the one you've used. The company has the upper hand in the printing industry, and that is due to the many years of service and experience that stand behind them. Although the company represents a big player in printing, they also have other domains which they attend to.

One of those is the computer industry, where they compete with companies such as Dell and Lenovo for the desktop computers and server markets. They also are a definitive part of the optical disk drives market, in which the big stand isn't made by having the best optical units, and I'm not judging their performance level on that, but by being the ones that have introduced the LightScribe technology. By choosing to practically sell the technology to other companies, such as LG, they've kept to themselves the storage media; the LightScribe disks are being manufactured by HP and sold as either under the HP brand, or under other names.

On the other hand, their printing business is blooming, and as the enterprise printing market is worth around $147 billion, they want their fair share. And to help them get there are two new multifunction printers (MFP). The HP CM8060/CM8050 Color MFPs are powered by HP's Edgeline Technology, a new "printing engine". Alongside these products, HP is also announcing the Web Jetadmin 10.0, a management software solution and the HP Universal Print Driver 4.0 for Windows, which is also compatible with Microsoft's Windows Vista.

Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president, Imaging and Printing Group, HP said: "Building on HP's MFP industry leadership, HP is extending our portfolio with new Edgeline color MFPs. The Edgeline offerings will transform the industry, providing customers a multifunction printing solution with unprecedented ease of use that can improve productivity and lower color operating costs by up to 30 percent."

The CM8060 has a very fast delivery rate, it can print up to 60 ppm black and white and 50 ppm color. The speed is increased to 557 ppm black and white and 71 ppm color when you switch to draft printing. Both printers share a common configuration, including an Intel Pentium 730 1.6GHz processor, 1GB od DDR2 memory, a 80GB hard drive, 10-inch color display and a 600dpi scanner.
