14 DAY TRIAL // HP has just announced, during a conference in San Francisco, the launch of its smallest webOS smartphone to date, the HP Veer. Along with the Veer, the company also announced their HP TouchPad tablet and the HP Pre 3.
Even though the Veer is the size of a credit card, it carries a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a lot of powerful hardware. The phone measures 54.5 mm x 84.0 mm x 15.1 mm weighs only 103 grams (battery included).
Veer is powered by an 800 MHz processor, complemented by an Adreno 205 GPU and a 2.57-inch capacitive touch screen with 262k colors and 320 x 400 pixels resolution.
“While much of the industry is trending toward larger and larger devices, we believe there's also a whole lot of room for thinking small,” said Jon Rubinstein, senior vice president and general manager, Palm Global Business Unit, HP.
“Veer bridges the gap for a new generation of smartphone users, proving they really can have it all without sacrificing the size they want,” added Rubinstein.
Other key features of the slider include HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, 8 GB of internal user storage, support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 beta, Wi-Fi mobile hotspot support, integrated GPS and a 5-megapixel camera with enhanced fixed focus and camcorder.
Veer also includes the HP Synergy feature, which enables users to sign in to their Facebook, Google, Microsoft Exchange, LinkedIn, Yahoo! and other accounts and information will automatically populate their phones.
According to HP, the company will extend the support for Synergy so developers can easily plug new Messaging, Contacts and Calendar application sources directly into the core webOS experiences.
The HP Veer smartphone is scheduled to be available in the early spring for a price that will be announced at a later date.
