HP has recently unveiled that its Envy 15 laptops now boast USB 3.0, but it seems that the company has no intention of limiting itself to upgrading a single product line. Hewlett-Packard has refreshed two other notebooks from the Pavilion series, namely the dv6t and dv7t, which offer “sophisticated elegance” and “total entertainment.” The 15.6-inch notebook and the 17.3-incher now use the 2.4GHz Core i5-520M (up to 2.93GHz with Turbo Boost) as their standard processor.

The larger dv7t notebook PC features a free upgrade to 3GB DDR3 system memory, but can pack up to 8GB in total thanks to its two DIMMs. The storage space may be of 250GB, with the most high-end option being the 1.28TB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (640GB x 2) with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection. The product features a choice of 512MB NVIDIA GeForce G 105M and 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 320M.

The younger sibling of the dv7t, the dv6t has a screen of only 15.3 inches with a resolution of 1366x768. While it boasts the same processor and similar memory capacities, its storage space (also boasting the HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection) only ranges between 250GB (7200RPM SATA HDD) and 640GB (5400RPM SATA HDD). In addition, besides the aforementioned 512MB NVIDIA GeForce G 105M and 1GB GT 320M, the dv6t may also make use of Intel(R) HD Graphics.

The two laptops run the genuine Windows 7 operating system and support the Windows XP mode if the configuration meets certain hardware requirements. Both can employ an Intel Wireless-N Card or an Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth for connectivity. In addition, the 15.6-inch model is also configurable with a Wireless-G Card or a Wireless G with Bluetooth.

Besides the high performance capabilities, the two machines can come equipped with the ability to also design labels thanks to the LightScribe technology, besides writing DVD's. The devices they may employ are a LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW or a Blu-ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW. The dv7t may also use a regular SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW, but all optical solutions have a double layer support.

The dv6t and the dv7t now have starting prices of $929 and of $999, respectively.
