Approximately two months ago, Santa Clara, California-based chip maker Intel announced the expansion of its line of Xeon server processors with the introduction of the X3400 series, aimed at SMBs looking for affordable computing solutions for their businesses. On that note, one of the world's leading vendors of server systems, HP, has recently announced an update to its line of ProLiant servers with the introduction of two new solutions, designed to leverage the performances and features of said processor series.

The Palo Alto, California-based system builder has just introduced the ML110 G6 tower and the DL 120 G6 rack servers, which have both been built to provide SMB users with an affordable server solution that is powered by Intel's Lynnfield processors and comes with DDR3 memory.

Starting with the ML110 G6 tower solution, users will be able to take advantage of 8GB of total memory, using 2GB DIMMs, an integrated RAID controller, and support for four 3.5-inch SAS or SATA hard drives. The system can be configured with either the X3430 processor, clocked at 2.5GHz or the 2.66GHz X3450 CPU, while a base configuration with 2GB of memory, a 160GB hard drive, and a 300W power supply unit starts at US$759.

In addition to the aforementioned tower server, HP will provide customers with the DL 120 G6 rack sever, which can also support 8GB of DDR3 memory, although the specifications sheet says that the unit is featured with 6 DIMM slots. The machine also comes with an integrated RAID controller and has an on-board Gigabit Ethernet port, three peripheral slots, and support for four 3.5-inch SATA drives, all within a 1U rack chassis design. A configuration featuring a 2.4GHz Xeon X3420 processor, coupled with 2GB of memory, no storage, and a 400 watt power supply, goes for US$999.
