Traditionally, all-in-one computers have been designed in order to address the needs of entry-level and mainstream computer users, but HP believes that this form factor also has a lot of potential for the high-end professional market, so it recently launched the HP Z1 AIO Workstation.

Coming as distant cousin of the consumer-focused Omni and TouchSmart lines, the Z1 is built around a 27-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 2560x1440.

While this makes the Z1 look pretty much like your standard enterprise AIO, taking a look under the hood reveals that HP’s workstation is an entirely different beast altogether.

This means that users can configure it with a variety of high-performance hardware such as Intel Xeon CPUs and Nvidia Quadro desktop graphics cards, as well as with a maximum of two 2.5- or 3.5-inch storage drives.

HP gives its clients the option of choosing between various SSD and hard drive models with spindle speeds of up to 10,000RP, which can also be accompanied by four full-sized DDR3 DIMMs to provide the Z1 with up to 32GB of system memory.

A Blu-ray/DVD combo drive is also included, while on the connectivity side of things we find pretty much everything that one would expect from a high-performance machine, such as USB 3.0 and FireWire.

A DisplayPort connector rounds up the specs list, which has been configured by HP to handle both input and output. This means that the HP Z1 can be used as a display, with a hotkey switching between the two modes.

"The revolutionary HP Z1 sets a new industry standard for workstation design, performance and serviceability," said Jim Zafarana, vice president and general manager, commercial solutions business unit, HP.

"With its game-changing design and an experience that optimizes visual and computing performance, the HP Z1 will help attract new customers and expand our market leadership," concluded the company’s rep.

According to HP, the new Z1 all-in-one workstation is expected to be available worldwide in April. In the US pricing will start at $1899, which translates into about 1442 EUR.
