Leading systems vendor HP has announced today the integration of the Colubris range of networking products in the company's existing ProCurve networking family. In addition, the company has also revealed the introduction of its new 802.11n wireless access point, which has been designed to enable high-bandwidth applications across the network.

On October 1, HP bought Waltham, the Massachusetts-based Colubris Networks, an acquisition that has given it the possibility to integrate a new range of wireless solutions designed to work at high networking speeds, compliant with the 802.11 network standard. The company's new ProCurve MSM410 single-radio access point is built as an indoor device that can easily be installed inside hotels, hospitals dormitories, and office environments. The new access point makes full use of the wireless 802.11n specifications, for a high-speed network connectivity.

"The rapid integration of two product lines was achieved in less than 45 days and illustrates the power of an open-standards strategy and our dedication to delivering secure, scalable and unified wireless networks that customers demand," said Marius Haas, senior vice president and general manager, HP ProCurve. "Adding the unique capabilities of the Colubris product line helps ProCurve lead the way in next-generation intelligent edge networking."

HP's new ProCurve mobility product line has been designed to work in a number of environments, ranging from large enterprises, to small and medium-sized businesses. The device can be used either as a standalone product, or can be connected to an already existing wireless network. In addition, HP's ProCurve Manager software will be updated to automatically discover, map, and initiate management on any Colubris product. The application will also provide a single view of wired and wireless network topologies.

Price-wise, the new ProCurve MSM410 is available for $649, and HP has specified that this product, as well as other Colubris ones, will be made available through the company's distribution channels.
