Having the Intel Centrino 2 notebook platform set to be launched three days from now made the market players move towards its adoption on the new machines ready for release. Hewlett Packard, has already announced the roll out of some notebooks featuring the platform. Other PC vendors, including Lenovo, Toshiba and Fujitsu, have also announced the development of a few series of new notebooks featuring the Intel Centrino 2 platform.

Included in HP's launch is the HP EliteBook, featuring a magnesium alloy, 14.1-inch screen and reportedly 15 hours of battery life. The notebook also comes with rugged features packed in a 4.7-pound case. Also, the company seems to have about four of the new processors used on its ready to come models. We refer here to the HP DV7-1000 series said to be delivered with the P8400, P8600, P9500, and T9400 processors. The thermal envelope of the "P" series of Centrino 2 is set at 25 watts, a real gain compared to the 35-watt TDP (Thermal Design Power) featured by today's mainstream Intel laptop processors.

HP's machine comes with 4GB of memory, 640GB of hard disk storage space and NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics, as well as a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) connector, and an eSata connector. External SATA devices can be connected to the notebook via the eSata connector. As for OS, the system will feature the 64-bit version of Windows Vista Home Premium.

Specifications on the HP Pavilion dv5-1000us "Entertainment" 15.4-inch notebook can also be found at some retailers. The mobile PC uses a Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz P7350 processor and features 4GB of memory, a 250GB hard disk drive, and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 with up to 1759MB shared graphics memory.

Another vendor, Toshiba, has also announced the launch of its Satellite M305-S4835 notebook, which uses the P7350 chip. The company designed the machine with a 14.1-inch screen, 4GB of memory, a 320GB hard disk drive, Intel GMA 4500MHD (graphics), and Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1, 64-bit version.

The Centrino 2 platform will include the P8400 (2.26GHz), P8600 (2.40GHz), P9500 (2.53GHz), and T9600 (2.80GHz). Also expected on the upcoming notebooks are the 3.06GHz X9100 Extreme processor and the P7XXX series processors, such as the 2.0GHz P7350.
