Although it announced plans to kill the TouchPad, HP is still committed to user experience, and the company has just made available for download a new OS flavor for the tablet PC.

The new software update is being released over-the-air, and brings along a nice range of enhancements to users.

The update will land on devices as webOS 3.0.4, and users will receive notifications on their devices as soon as it was made available for them.

The main features that the new OS flavor will bring along include:

- A new Camera app for photos and video

* The ability to pair non-webOS phones to your TouchPad, so you can answer calls on your TouchPad. Pairing with non-webOS Bluetooth keyboards has also been streamlined.

- Support for OGG Vorbis music files

- Online/offline messaging status support.

At the same time, users should benefit from a series of performance improvements on their devices, as well as from various interface improvements, and a series of other enhancements as well.

For example, the company notes in a recent blog post that the new webOS 3.0.4 platform release will arrive on TouchPad devices with support for accelerometer events in Adobe Flash Player, and with a more robust Skype video calling capability.

As stated above, the new software update for the HP TouchPad will be sent to users over the air, though chances are that it will also emerge into the wild as available for manual downloads.

For those out of the loop, we should also note that the tablet PC has been announced as being discontinued, though HP will still make available some more units due to high demand.

The company will not continue development for the tablet PC, though it will still offer support for the device, and will keep on working on the webOS platform for a while longer.
